After a fairly turgid first half performance, Church recovered their mojo somewhat in the second, and aided by a spectacular goal from Dan Sweeney in the 57th minute, were good value for at least a point in a game in which they finished the strongest.
The early pressure came from the visitors who were really seeing this game as a must-win if they were to realistically keep their play-off hopes aflame.
Fatadjo volleyed a dinked cross over from 15 yards after 8 minutes after Quantrell and Loza had combined well down the right flank.
But Leiston were on target on 18 minutes after the ball had bobbled around a bit on the edge of the box, and Fatadjo proved to be the most persistent, and after gaining possession, dispatched the ball low into the bottom right hand corner of Cisse's get.
Church nave been on the back foot for a spell and the visitors have capitalised with an opening goal, and there is more threat two minutes later when Loza drives over from 20 yards - close to a second goal.
Church gradually haul themselves back into contention, with the lively Ngandu proving to be a promising outlet. On 24 minutes he evades a challenge and drives just over from 25 yards for Church's first serious attempt on the Leiston goal.
On 36 minutes Church are slow in dealing with a counter attack threat through midfield and Mills ghosts into possession down the left flank, and gaining a good position in the Church box sends a cross-shot into the danger area, but thankfully just wide of the far post with no decisive touch on hand.
Half Time: Alvechurch 0 Leiston 1
It is much better from Church in the second half, and after Sweeney's goal on 57 minutes a winning scoreline looks very much possible for once .
The long ball that finds Sweeney is brilliantly brought down on the turn, and the Church striker dispatches a first time shot that completely fools keeper Johnson, who is moving to his left as Sweeney's shot arrows into the net to his right - an immediate contender for goal of the month, and possibly season.
Cisse is largely redundant for long spells, but is called upon on 80 minutes when Quantrell drives to the by-line, and crosses to the near post, finding Clements whose headed effort is blocked well by the Church keeper.
A good effort from Willis on 87 almost brings a winner for Church after the home side had well worked the ball across the face of the area, and the Church midfielder curls a delicious effort towards the top right hand corner, only to be foiled by full stretch save from Johnson.
Church are camped in the Leiston half by this point, and quick feet from Savkin sees him progress promising into the box, but his rasping shot goes into the side netting.
Church are finishing strongly, and a Sweeney driven cross is parried out by Johnson, and a follow up effort from Onabirekhanlen is on target but deflected into the patch of Johnson who is able to deal with the danger at the second attempt.
The flurry brings the action to an end, and a point is probably a decent return from a game that could have been easily lost after that less dominant first half.
